WOMAN LETS DAUGHTER RIDE ON TOP OF VAN: An Alabama woman was arrested after she let her 13-year-old daughter ride in a box on top of her minivan while driving on a state highway. Police responded to a phone call by a passing driver and arrested the woman, who said the girl was riding in the box on top of the van because there wasn't enough room for it in her vehicle. The woman claimed that she needed to girl to sit in the box to hold it down and it was safe because the box was fastened to the car with a clothes hanger. The girl was turned over to a relative and the mother has been released from jail on bond. (AP)
MAN ON ROLLERBLADES ARRESTED FOR BREAKING INTO CARS: A Florida man on rollerblades, who police say is a former prostitute, was arrested for breaking into cars to steal things like cell phones and GPS units which he then planned to sell. Police caught the man after he broke into four cars in midtown Miami. One of the victims witnessed the suspect breaking into her car, and a friend was able to chase down the man on rollerblades and hold him until police arrived. He has pleaded not guilty after being charged with burglary. (Miami New Times)
CLERKS SURRENDER CASH BEFORE MAN DEMANDS IT: Clerks at an Iowa convenience store, who have been robbed twice recently, thought they were being robbed again by a rambling man who entered the store with his hand in his pocket. The clerks put cash into a bag and threw it at the man, who left the money alone and walked out of the store. Police say the man was drunk and did not attempt to rob the store, but he was arrested for public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference. (AP)
