A CROOKED VULTURE SPEAKS OUT
Them Crooked Vultures guitarist and singer Josh Homme says in his first interview about the supergroup that they've been deliberately secretive about their plans, but hints that their self-titled debut album is likely to come out before the end of the year. In a video interview with Antiquiet.com, Homme says about the trio's highly anticipated debut disc, "We just finished figuring out what songs we're going to put on it, which took a little bit of time. We couldn't decide what (we wanted) to do. Do you make a triple album? An EP? . . . I tend to think that even if you've got a bunch of good songs, maybe you should err on the side of brevity, and keep it tight. But we really enjoy lots of songs, so we couldn't decide."
RISE AGAINST BATTLES RADIO STATION OVER CANCELED SHOW
STATIONS: Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive to your audience.
Politically-minded punk act Rise Against have gotten embroiled in a public fight with West Palm Beach, Florida rock radio station Buzz 103 over the band's decision to pull out of headlining the station's annual "Buzz Bake Sale" festival. According to Alternative Press, Rise Against decided to not play the show after the band discovered that the stage they were performing on was going to be sponsored by the U.S. Army's recruiting department. Although the lineup had not been publicly announced yet, the station's program director and morning show hosts discussed it on the air Monday morning (October 5th), where they accused Rise Against of having "anti-American attitudes" and debated whether or not to continue playing the band's music.
Rise Against later posted a lengthy statement online about the situation, which read in part, "Rise Against supports the troops and always have. In the past year, Rise Against worked closely with the USO to allow troops and their families to attend our shows with Rancid for free. As our economy spiraled over the summer, we played near about 14 different military bases, making this all possible . . . We hear from troops overseas on a daily basis through email and cherish that contact. We learned so much in the time we spent with all of these individuals and look forward to doing it again."
Puddle Of Mudd has tentatively set December 4th as the release date for the band's new studio effort, now titled Volume 4: Songs In The Key Of Love & Hate. A new single called "Spaceship" is slated to arrive at radio stations sometime next week. (FMQB)
