Top Republican senators escalated their call Sunday for President Obama to grant Gen. Stanley McChrystal's request for more troops in Afghanistan, and one prominent Democrat warned that a failure to do so could jeopardize U.S. forces.

The Obama administration is deep in deliberations over whether to build on its counterinsurgency strategy with thousands more troops in Afghanistan or focus more on taking out top Al Qaeda targets


Just days after a local community group held a stop the violence rally in Atlantic City, a Philadelphia man who had been staying in the city was brutally murdered.
Authorities say 23-year-old Kevin Ross of Philadelphia, who had been staying for several months in Atlantic City was brutally gunned down on the sidewalk. Ross died from six gunshot wounds, including one to the head


A freak construction accident in Center City left a worker dead and three bystanders injured Monday.

The boom lift was working on a church roof at 21st and Walnut Streets at about 1:15 p.m. when it toppled, sending the operator 125 feet to the ground to his death

A preliminary investigation indicated that a utility grate under the sidewalk beneath one of the lift's wheels gave way causing the lift to tilt and eventually tumble.


A hospital official said a 23-year-old runner in Saturday's Baltimore marathon died after collapsing at the 25-mile mark.

the runner collapsed about 11:20 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital about 1:10 p.m.doctors were not able to revive the man
