Rock News

The soundtrack to the upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon, debuted at Number Two on this week's Billboard album chart, selling 115,000 copies in just its first four days on shelves. The release of the set was pushed forward from Tuesday, October 20th to Friday, October 16th after songs from the soundtrack began to leak online. The record features exclusive music from Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke, Muse, the Killers, OK Go and others. The record could make it to Number One next week after a full week's worth of sales.

In other chart news, Out Of Ashes, the debut disc from Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington's new band Dead By Sunrise, landed at Number 29 on the chart with sales of 17,000 copies. Bennington told us that he's okay with being in a band that has to start from scratch all over again: ["There's something magical about -- especially when fans get into something early on, and there's a connection or a camaraderie there, like when people feel like they've discovered you. There's something special about that feeling. We all really enjoy this phase and, you know, as much as we'd love to stay in this phase, it would be nice though if this took off and a lot of people started figuring out that we made a really great record here."]

Them Crooked Vultures will send their first official single to rock radio on Monday, October 26th, according to FMQB.com. The track, called "New Fang," is taken from the band's self-titled debut album, which is now slated to arrive on November 17th. The trio, which consists of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums, Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, just completed their first North American tour and will head to the U.K., Germany, Australia and New Zealand in November and December.

Metallica will be joined by legendary singer Ozzy Osbourne and Kinks frontman Ray Davies for their performance next Friday (October 30th) at New York's Madison Square Garden during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th anniversary concerts. Other artists appearing during the two-night celebration, which kicks off on October 29th, include U2, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder and Eric Clapton. Each act will play their own music, as well as music by other artists that inspired them, with surprise collaborations likely to occur throughout both evenings.
