Actor Patrick Swayze died Monday at the age of 57 after months of battling pancreatic cancer. The Golden Globe-nominated star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost passed away peacefully with family at his side, his publicist said. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa Niemi.
Swayze announced in March 2008 that he was suffering from the disease, a particularly deadly form of cancer which is considered incurable. His diagnosis came just as he was beginning work on the A&E TV series The Beast. He completed one season of the show, which received decent ratings. But, the network said it had reluctantly decided not to renew the show for a second season.
Despite the outpouring of hatred towards Kanye West after he interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA acceptance speech, the rapper still has show host Russell Brand in his corner. The British comedian told Ryan Seacrest on Monday (September 14th) morning that he can sympathize with West, "Because in the past I've made mistakes and done things a little bit daft. I know Kanye, and I know he's a nice bloke. We all make mistakes in life."
The 34-year-old urged celebrities and the public to lay off on Kanye and cut him a little slack for getting "a little bit excited." He explained, "We're all people, these things are a bit silly, no one died."
8.97 million viewers tuned in to watch the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 13th) night. Variety reported that the figure marks a six percent increase from last year's ceremony and is the largest audience for the awards show since 2004.
