Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin told FazerMagazine.com in a new interview that the band has got a tentative list of 18 songs to choose from for its fifth studio album, which the group began working on this week in Los Angeles. Larkin added that the band's recent single, "Whiskey Hangover," is a good starting point for the sound of the next record, saying, "That's what we're going for. It's more simplistic than the last record -- less bluesy, more heavy, but, you know, we wanted to get back to the original sound of the band and what made this band happen in the first place . . . simple heavy rock, so that's where were kind of shooting for on this one."
Although "Whiskey Hangover" was written and recorded to promote Godsmack's appearance on the Crue Fest 2 tour this past summer, Larkin said that the Number One-charting single will be on the new album as well.

Maybe release the record in March or April, and then prepare for a world tour come May.
