Rock News

Foo Fighters recently unveiled the track listing for their upcoming collection, Greatest Hits, with the 16-song package set to contain two new songs, "Word Forward" and "Wheels." But if you think that the inclusion of new material means a whole new album is on the way, drummer Taylor Hawkins says not to hold your breath: ["It's a twinkle in Dave's (Grohl, frontman) eye right now, you know. Who knows what it's gonna be or when it's gonna be. It could be two years from now, I don't know. It depends how long we decide to go off and do side projects and stuff like that. We will get to it, you know. I know we will 'cause I know Dave has songs. We'll get to it when Dave's good and ready. I don't want to do it until Dave's good and ready, you know."]

Alice In Chains recently recruited pop legend Elton John to contribute piano to the title track of the band's about-to-be-released new album, Black Gives Way To Blue. Not only was Elton a favorite of guitarist Jerry Cantrell, but he was the first artist that late Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley ever saw in concert. Cantrell told us about the experience: ["It was just really cool to hang with him and to, you know, have somebody that means so much to your musical journey to be a part of your creation, you know what I mean? And one of those real meaningful things that you could never really expect to happen, and we're just kind of still blown away that it did."]

A singer-songwriter says that there are "striking similarities" between his music video and one created by Coldplay. According to the Guardian, musician Dan Gallagher noted an "awful lot of similarities" between the clip for his song "Something Else" and Coldplay's video for their tune "Strawberry Swing" -- specifically, that both clips show people interacting with animated chalkboards. Gallagher said, "I think it's unfair that 'Strawberry Swing' will probably be nominated for numerous awards and is being universally acclaimed as groundbreaking, when ('Something Else' director] Owen Trevor had virtually the same idea at least a year before."
