Rock News

Pearl Jam notched its first Number One debut on the Billboard 200 album chart in 13 years this week with its ninth studio effort, Backspacer. The disc, which was sold exclusively through Target, iTunes and selected independent stores, sold 189,000 copies since arriving on September 20th. It's the fourth time the band has hit Number One and first since No Code sold 367,000 copies to hit the top spot. Pearl Jam's previous effort, a 2006 self-titled CD, sold 279,000 copies and landed at Number Two.

Kings Of Leon have notched another milestone in their careers with their single "Use Somebody" hitting Number One on the mainstream Top 40 radio chart, according to Mediabase. This comes exactly a year after the release of the band's fourth studio album, Only By The Night, which has become the Southern group's first million-seller in the U.S. and yielded two other rock radio hits. One of those, "Sex On Fire," earned the quartet their first Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal.

The new Foo Fighters single, "Wheels," is one of two new songs included on the band's upcoming greatest hits collection. Although drummer Taylor Hawkins told us recently that an all-new Foo Fighters record is not imminent, he did hint that "Wheels" and the other new tune, "Word Forward," are from recordings that he and frontman Dave Grohl did a while back: ["Me and Dave basically recorded almost a whole album a year ago. We really did. In four days we recorded 10 or 11 songs, two of which are 'Word Forward' and 'Wheels.' The recordings we did were really great and there's some really great stuff, and I don't even know if Dave wants to use any of it even more. He probably will have 10 or 15 more things by next time we get together
