Chevelle releases its fifth studio album on Monday (August 31st), titled Sci-Fi Crimes. Although the band recorded its last effort, 2007's Vena Sera, in Las Vegas, they chose to work on the new disc in Nashville. But while the Tennessee town is known as Music City, drummer Sam Loeffler told us it wasn't his favorite place to work: ["Nashville's good. It's just, you know, when we did the last record in Vegas, it's probably a better place for us to be -- somewhere where there's a lot more action. Because, you know, when you're doing a record, there's a lot of downtime, and you start to just kind of turn inwards if you don't have somewhere to go. And we were sort of out in the country and things, and I don't know that that's the best environment for us.
A.F.I. played in the U.K. this past weekend (August 29th and 30th) at the annual Reading and Leeds Festivals, capping a summer festival run that marked the band's first live performances in more than two years. But singer Davey Havok told us that the quartet had no problem getting back into the live groove: ["It is kind of stunning, I should say, to be back on the stage all of a sudden after that long, but there were shows in between the long period of time without us playing before our first festival over here in Europe. You get used to it pretty quickly. We've been playing shows for so long that once you get up there, you're like, 'Oh, okay, I remember this.'
A new song from Death Cab For Cutie will serve as the lead single from the soundtrack of the movie The Twilight Saga: New Moon, according to Billboard.com. The track, called "Meet Me On the Equinox," was written and recorded specifically for the film and will be unveiled at MTV.com on September 13th during the broadcast of the MTV Video Music Awards. The rest of the soundtrack's roster has yet to be confirmed, although reportedly Muse and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke may contribute new tunes to the October 20th release.
