The H1N1 flu virus could cause as many as 30,000 and 90,000 deaths in the United States and "poses a serious health threat" the Obama administration's advisory group on Science and Technology said in a report released Monday.
Deaths would be concentrated among children and young adults, according to the report. In contrast, the typical seasonal flu kills between 30,000 and 40,000 annually — mainly among people over 65.
The report predicts 1.8 million will be hospitalized during the epidemic, with up to 300,000 patients requiring intensive care units.
Mayor Lorenzo Langford, on Monday, ordered the suspension of Police K-9's from active duty, pending the outcome of an investigation by his office, into allegations of K-9 misuse on residents.
The initial directive from the mayors office took effect Monday morning: Police K-9 dogs will not be used for criminal apprehension, but can still be used for narcotics work and mutual aid calls in neighboring towns.
The decision by Langford is the result of complaints by some Atlantic City residents about alleged K-9 misuse, including the un-necessary biting of suspects by the dogs.

Convicted Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff is dying of cancer, sources told the New York Post.
Madoff, who is serving 150 years at a North Carolina federal prison after pleading guilty to swindling more than $65 billion, has been telling fellow inmate he doesn't have much longer to live.
"He's been taking about 20 pills a day for his cancer," one inmate told the newspaper. "He talks about it all the time. He's not doing very well."
A man who used a public toilet in a shopping mall was taken to a hospital to have the toilet seat removed from his backside after someone smeared it with glue in what an official condemned Monday as a sick joke.
