Chevelle releases its fifth studio album on Monday (August 31st), titled Sci-Fi Crimes. Although the band recorded its last effort, 2007's Vena Sera, in Las Vegas, they chose to work on the new disc in Nashville. But while the Tennessee town is known as Music City, drummer Sam Loeffler told us it wasn't his favorite place to work: ["Nashville's good. It's just, you know, when we did the last record in Vegas, it's probably a better place for us to be -- somewhere where there's a lot more action. Because, you know, when you're doing a record, there's a lot of downtime, and you start to just kind of turn inwards if you don't have somewhere to go. And we were sort of out in the country and things, and I don't know that that's the best environment for us.

A.F.I. played in the U.K. this past weekend (August 29th and 30th) at the annual Reading and Leeds Festivals, capping a summer festival run that marked the band's first live performances in more than two years. But singer Davey Havok told us that the quartet had no problem getting back into the live groove: ["It is kind of stunning, I should say, to be back on the stage all of a sudden after that long, but there were shows in between the long period of time without us playing before our first festival over here in Europe. You get used to it pretty quickly. We've been playing shows for so long that once you get up there, you're like, 'Oh, okay, I remember this.'

A new song from Death Cab For Cutie will serve as the lead single from the soundtrack of the movie The Twilight Saga: New Moon, according to Billboard.com. The rest of the soundtrack's roster has yet to be confirmed, although reportedly Muse and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke may contribute new tunes to the October 20th release.

Sources close to Slipknot have told us that the official reason for drummer Joey Jordison's hospitalization over the weekend was a burst appendix, although that has yet to be officially confirmed by either the band's record label or management. The incident led the band to cancel the rest of its tour dates for August and September to give Jordison time to recover. At the moment a planned October trek is still on the group's schedule, although dates and cities have yet to be finalized.

Slipknot rarely cancels gigs and has even toured with members missing due to injuries, meaning that Jordison's condition must have been serious. Singer Corey Taylor told us last year that the band always tries to find a way to make the show go on: ["I'm very proud of the fact that I've only canceled four shows in my entire career, and it was only because I was just physically unable to do it. If you're able to do it, at least get up there, you know. At least do your best. I mean, the fans appreciate that beyond anything else. I think that's why we're still here, because we've never let that stuff stop us."]

Korn announced on Tuesday (August 25th) that they will release a free, exclusive digital EP four times a year to Premium Members of the band's website, Korn.com. The first EP is due in early September and will feature several previously unreleased tracks, as well as a rough instrumental demo from the band's upcoming album. The group recently resumed work on the record after spending the summer on tour, and guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told us what the material sounds like: ["Very raw. It's very raw on an emotional level, and also a level that we haven't hit on in a while. It feels very personal and raw. You break it down to the basics and those are the raw ingredients that gave birth to this band, and it's nice to kind of get back to that original sound that we had."]

Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump was arrested on Tuesday night (August 25th) in Hollywood, California on a traffic warrant stemming from a charge of driving without a license. According to TMZ.com, Stamp was taken to a West Hollywood sheriff's station and held on $15,000 bail until he was released at 4:30 a.m. Stump said in a statement, "All I really have to say is ignorance of the law isn't innocence. I didn't want to give up my Illinois driver's license and was unaware that was a crime. It is, by the way, in the state of California. Lesson learned. I technically broke a law, so technically I deserve whatever I get. But man, is my mom gonna be pissed."

Sen. Edward Kennedy, the longtime Massachusetts lawmaker whose personal tragedies along with his professional triumphs and losses unfolded in the public eye, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. He was 77.

"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," the statement said. Theory Of A Deadman will release a special edition of its third and latest album, Scars & Souvenirs, on October 20th. According to Tunelab Music, the CD/DVD package will contain all the band's music videos, a live version of the single "Hate My Life," behind-the-scenes footage from all the shoots for videos from this album and a spoof of MTV's Cribs program called Haciendas.

Scars & Souvenirs has become the Canadian act's most successful record yet. It's sold nearly 700,000 copies, more than twice what each of the band's previous releases moved. Frontman Tyler Connolly told us he has no idea why this CD was the one that really stuck: ["I don't know, man. A lot has to do with timing, I think. Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Spin.com that the band's late lead singer, Layne Staley, was a fan of Elton John, who plays piano on the title track of the band's upcoming album, Black Gives Way To Blue. Cantrell explained, "Layne's mom reminded me that Elton John was Layne's first concert and she said he was blown away. Layne told me that once, but I had totally forgotten about it. It brought back some really cool memories. There's a lot of really weird things lining up here. Number one: the significance of Elton to Alice In Chains. Number two: it was Layne's first concert. And to have Elton play on a song for Layne, whew, it means so much to us."

But you know man, it's great. We feel like it's been a long time coming. It's so funny, we'd almost given up on the idea of ever, you know, being big, you know, especially in America. Then this record comes along and a song with the words 'sex' and 'fire' in it turns everything around. So who woulda knew.
