Rock News

Foo Fighters issue their first best-of collection, simply titled Greatest Hits, on Tuesday (November 3rd). The 16-track set comes in both a standard edition and a deluxe version, with the latter containing a DVD and a 28-page book featuring never-before-seen photos from throughout the band's history. Also included are two new songs, "Word Forward" and "Wheels," both newly recorded for this release with producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig.

Foos frontman Dave Grohl last worked with Vig on Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind, when Grohl was playing drums for that band. Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins joked that guitarist Chris Shiflett and bassist Nate Mendel were not intimidated by having so many drummers around: ["I was the one who's in the hot seat because I've got two drummers sitting there staring down the barrel of the recording gun at me. So I think they actually felt like, 'Ha ha, at least I'm glad, you know, it's not three bass players producing this, or three guitar players.' I don't know if that really came into their minds, but there were a lot of frickin' drummers in the room, let me tell you."]

Weezer issues its seventh studio album on Tuesday (November 3rd), called Raditude. The disc is the band's most collaborative effort yet, with several producers on board, songwriting team-ups with Jermaine Dupri and the All-American Rejects, and even a guest appearance from Lil Wayne. Drummer Pat Wilson, who was recently promoted to guitar, told us a while back that the new spirit of collaboration began on the group's last effort, 2008's "red album": ["It just seemed like that was the healthy way to kind of keep everything feeling fresh. Like, everybody was feeling like, 'Well, I'd really like to hear your voice, I wanna hear your songs.' After 15 years of doing it the other way, it just felt like it was time, you know."

Pearl Jam gave the last concert ever at the legendary Philadelphia Spectrum on Saturday night (October 31st), wrapping up a four-night stand at the venue with a three-and-a-half hour, 41-song behemoth of a set. According to RollingStone.com, the band played a healthy amount of covers, B-sides and rare tunes, giving the Vitalogy track "Bugs" its first-ever live airing and digging up 1994's "Out Of My Mind" for only its third performance. "Sweet Lew," a musical tribute to basketball icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sung by bassist Jeff Ament, also made its live premiere.

Three System Of A Down members -- guitarist Daron Malakian, bass player Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan -- regrouped to play a few songs together on Saturday night (October 31st), during Odadjian's Halloween party at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. According to Blabbermouth, they were joined by Franky Perez, who sang and played guitar in Malakian's side band, Scars On Broadway. Among the tunes the foursome played were System's "Suite-Pee" and Scars On Broadway's "They Say."
