Three missing North Dakota college softball players were found dead Tuesday in a Jeep pulled from a pond, and police said they believed the women were in the vehicle when they made two desperate calls to friends for help.
Police say he believes the women were in the Jeep when they called for help, but he didn't know whether it already was under water when those calls were made.

Republican Chris Christie, a former corruption-busting prosecutor, unseated the unpopular Gov. Jon Corzine on Tuesday
With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Christie had 49 percent of the vote compared to 44 percent for Corzine. Independent candidate Chris Daggett, who at one point had been feared as a potential spoiler, had about 5 percent.


SEPTA's largest transport workers union is on strike after failing to reach a new contract during negotiations with the transit agency.

Transport Workers Union Local 234 announced the strike as of 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Most SEPTA services in Philadelphia were brought to a halt due to the strike, as the union represents more than 5,000 bus drivers, subway and trolley operators and mechanics.

An 11-year-old girl has become a mother after going into labor during her wedding to her teenage boyfriend.
Meanwhile, the father of the baby faces jail time.
The couple met in the playground of her gypsy school when he rescued her from bullies. Their daughter was conceived within a week.
The father is facing up to six years behind bars for having sex with a minor.
