President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao emerged from hours of intense talks Tuesday determined to marshal their combined clout on crucial issues, but still showing divisions over economic, security and human rights issues that have long starined the two powers.
"The relationship between our two nations goes far beyond any single issue," Obama said in a joint appearance with Hu that followed about 2 1/2 hours of private conversations.

Last week’s devastating coastal storm left $89 million worth of damage in Ocean City alone and an estimated $31 million worth of damage in Long Beach Township on Long Beach Island
Sea Isle City conservatively estimated it lost $15 million in beach and dunes; Avalon, an estimated $4 million and Strathmere, $2.5 million.

One frustrated client hurled a piece of concrete through the window of a welfare agency. Another threw her car keys at a welfare worker before being escorted away. At one point, a woman on public assistance even took a swing at a worker.
As the nation struggles with the highest jobless rate since the depression, state workers who deal with unemployment, welfare and other aid programs say they have never been so overwhelmed — or so worried about their safety. Some clients have begun taking their anger out on the very people who are offering help.
