President Obama said Tuesday that U.S. intelligence had enough information to uncover the terrorist plot to bomb a Northwest Airlines flight but "failed" to piece it all together before the suspect boarded a plane for Detroit armed with explosives.
The president, who spoke after meeting with top officials to discuss internal reviews of the attempted bombing Christmas Day, said the suspect's name should have been added to the no-fly list based on information available about him. He said the government will quickly make changes to ensure future attempts are thwarted.


Gov. Jon S. Corzine, making a key casino appointment in the final days of his administration, has nominated a retired State Police captain to the agency that oversees Atlantic City's $4.5 billion gaming industry.
Pending confirmation by the state Senate, Edward J. Fanelle will join the New Jersey Casino Control Commission's five-member board. Commissioners serve five-year terms and earn $125,000 annually.


Eyewitness News has learned that three Transportation Security Administration explosive detecting dogs at Philadelphia International Airport failed required re-certification testing.

Sources said the dogs, which are used to screen cargo, failed the testing last month that is required every two years.
The TSA dogs have 90 days to get re-certified,

With a book written by one of Usama bin Laden's sons, and with news of a daughter sheltering in the Saudi Embassy in Iran, some of the blanks are being filled in on the life of the Sept. 11, 2001 mastermind's large family, including lurid details of his parenting style.
The mother and son write that the kids grew up in Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Afghanistan without laughter or toys, were routinely beaten, and lost their pets to painful death from poison gas experiments by their father's fighters.
When they became young adults, their father asked them to volunteer for suicide missions. When Omar protested, bin Laden was quoted as replying: "You hold no more a place in my heart than any man or boy in the entire country. This is true for all my sons."
