A homicide car bomber struck a heavily guarded neighborhood Tuesday near the home of a former Afghan vice president and a hotel favored by Westerners, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens


UPPER TOWNSHIP Township Committee on Monday reluctantly rescinded a law limiting where convicted sex offenders can live following a state Supreme Court decision earlier this year that affected more than 100 municipalities.
The state Supreme Court ruled in May that municipalities cannot regulate where sex offenders can live. The decision originated in a Galloway Township case in which a Richard Stockton College of New Jersey student - a low-risk sex offender - challenged the local law.

Gary DeMarzo was named the city’s new mayor during a special meeting tonight in City Hall. He was selected after the city’s newest Commissioners Al Brannen and Edward Harshaw were sworn into office.
Brannen and Harshaw were the top vote getters in the Dec. 8 recall election in which residents voted to oust Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. and Commissioner Bill Davenport.

Members of a family living in Southern California were found dead Monday in a home inside an upscale gated community in Orange County
deputies arrived at the home, they found "multiple victims" inside the house
"The scene is bloody as you would imagine with multiple victims," police said.

A south Texas couple put an aborted 7-month-old fetus in a gift box under a Christmas tree after they were unable to flush the remains down a toilet, authorities alleged Monday.
Ruby Lee Medina, 31, and Javier Gonzalez, 37, of Mission, have been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Bond was set Monday at $20,000 each.
